Dogs bark and Cats meow

Author: R. Mark Wilson B.Min.

It’s pretty obvious, dogs will bark and cats will meow and to expect a cat to bark is just
unreasonable. So, what is the point. It says in Ezekial 36:26-27, “I will give you a new heart and put a
new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. I
will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments
and do them.” Here we see 2 natures at work, the heart of stone and the heart of flesh. By its
nature, the heart of stone does what it wants to do, where is the heart of flesh has a desire to do
what God wants it to do. This is the new nature that comes from being “reborn from above”.

The point is this, a person who is not regenerated by the power of God cannot please God in any
way, no matter how much they try to be good, it’s like a cat trying to bark, it is unnatural, it simply
won’t work. Christians must be mindful of this when they are out in the marketplace, going out with
friends or in the work place interacting with colleagues or as an employer dealing with employees.
Christians can come across a bit naive. Expecting others to act like they do. Be discerning, be wise,
guard your heart, do not cast your pearls before swine. Be careful who you partner up with, as Paul
says, what partnership does light have with darkness. I could say, what companionship does a cat
have with a dog, in most cases, It’s normally not a very good one.

Be wise when employing people, being involved with others in the marketplace whether it be
committees, or even selecting a worship leader for your church. Just because someone says they are
a Christian, doesn’t mean that they are automatically. Look into their lives, do background checks,
pray for discernment, ask God for His opinion. Above all do not Presume!
